JANEEMO congratulated on Partnership and Quality Collaboration
July 9 2009
Mr. Mavunga, District Planning and Development Officer (DPD) from Chikwawa District Assembly, congratulated the JANEEMO project team and all of its partners for how they are working together to mutually compliment each other. He mentioned that it was a rare example in the district as all too often organisations are working in isolation.
Representatives from Entech, EU/GOM IFMSLP (Department of Forestry), and Play Soccer Malawi were gathered together with journalists from Zodiac, MBC radio stations and Blantyre Newspapers to celebrate the sustainable Neem firewood initiative in Msamu Village, Chikwawa. The initiative is working with JANEEMO farmers throughout East Bank Masenjere Escarpment to pollard their Neem trees for improved productivity and powder production whilst at the same time providing a source of sustainable firewood via Play Soccer Malawi volunteers in Ndirande, Blantyre.

The DPD handed a total of 12, 000 MKW to JANEEMO farmers who had already pollarded some trees and sold their first truck of firewood for a profit via the Play Soccer Malawi Sustainable Firewood Stall.
Reporters from the media were given a briefing on the sustainability of the initiative to highlight the difference between cutting natural miombo forest and pollarding homestead planted Neem trees. The journalists present also visited other examples of the JANEEMO collaboration with EU/GOM IFMSLP and Play Soccer Malawi in Kwataine, Jana and Nyanggu Village.
