JANEEMO Education launches

A celebration was held on 30th June at the Edinburgh College of Art to celebrate the launch of JANEEMO Education. 

A wide variety of people attended the launch, including teachers, international developers, foresters and film-makers. Two films, produced by students at the Edinburgh College of Art, were screened for the audience. These are being widely distributed to Scottish schools, and being used by teachers to stimulate exercises, lesson plans ans games.

At the launch, pupils of Grantown Grammar School encouraged participants to play their JANEEMO board games, including Janeemopoly and JANEEMO snakes and ladders.

JANEEMO Education is being developed in partnership with government body, Learning and Teaching Scotland, to deliver the national Curriculum for Excellence.

 

 

Imani Development joins JANEEMO team

Africa and Scotland-based Imani Development is a group of enterprise development experts, which will develop markets for JANEEMO products and explore product certification. It joins the team at an exciting time, with a new phase starting to bring JANEEMO tree products to market.

JANEEMO showcased at Copenhagen climate summit

The JANEEMO education film is being shown at the Development and Climate Days Annual Film Festival, a side event to the COP15 Climate Change conference in Copenhagen.

BAFTA-nominee film makers bring JANEEMO to Scottish schools

Two budding documentary makers have created an educational film about JANEEMO. It will be premiered in December 2009 and be distributed to Scottish schools over the next year.

Cooking and lighting with JANEEMO biogas

Moringa substitute for fresh water fish meal

The JANEEMO project, in conjunction with the Chikwawa District Fisheries
Department, will be  studying the potential of Moringa, locally known
as Sagowa, as a “healthy” feedstock substitute to imported fish meal.

Moringa to be used as a plant growth enhancer

The Janeemo project team are working with the Chikwawa District Agriculture Office to study the potential of Moringa extract as a liquid fertilizer.

Janeemo feature in The Scotsman

A 1200 word photo feature article on Janeemo was published in The Scotsman, on Saturday 21st March. 'How Livingstone links are helping Malawian Villagers go for Growth' introduced Janeemo, its aims and outcomes. It also discussed the need for aid to promote enterprises and to reduce dependency culture. Interviews were conducted with farmers, Noah Daswanda, Dorothy Nduma and Nelio Makudzo.  Karen Edwards and Jonah Chimuroso were also quoted.

Film competition for documentary makers

Film students at the Edinburgh School of Art have been invited to participate in a competition to make a film about JANEEMO for Scottish school children.  This will form a key part  of the education pack being developed by the JANEEMO team.

Moringa Food Trial

The JANEEMO team has been invited to participate in a food trial of moringa by The University of Malawi. Moringa is one of the three crops being grown under the JANEEMO system.
